Peace from your past
You can have the life you’ve always imagined!
So, you’ve been through some things, and it’s starting to catch up with you. I’m sure you’ve thought “well everyone goes through things, why can’t I just get over it?”
While this may be true, as a therapist I can tell you there are a number of reasons why some of us are more impacted by certain things than others. Much of it leads right back to the way that our brain is wired. Which means, how our brain created a roadmap of connections through-out our life, and especially after difficult events.
Sometimes the reason why we can’t just “talk our way out” of feeling something, is we need to rewire the brain. This can be done through traditional therapy sessions, but sometimes we need more.
That’s where I come in!
I have been trained in a number of trauma therapies that help us get at the deeper parts of our brain that may require some extra help.
What is trauma?
A trauma is a difficult, stressful life event that our brain perceived as being dangerous. Due to this, our brain will send us “alarms” about situations in our lives that it believes it is protecting us from. This is why something we think shouldn’t be upsetting us, is. This can be why we become overly worried about something that logically “makes no sense.”
What is trauma work?
Trauma work is when we make the conscious decision to “go deeper.” We will trace the roots of current issues to where they originated from. The goal of this is to heal your pain and problems at the source.
An analogy: It would be as if we were weeding a garden, and only plucking the top of the weed that we see out. That weed will keep growing back. Instead, we want to find it’s roots and dig the whole thing up.
EMDR
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is specialized form of therapy that uses the body to assist in rewiring the brain. This is done through a process called bilateral stimulation, such as eye movement or physical touch side-to-side. For many, it can be more effective and faster than some other forms of therapy.
If we decide this would be effective for you, we would discuss your history, plan what you would like to work on, and prepare you for processing. I will teach you techniques to help strengthen your ability to revisit difficult, old memories. Then via processing and afterwards, I will help you to discover new ways to think about what you’ve been through, as well as lessen the discomforts from your past. This process allows your brain to fully “file” away things from your past in a more useful way, just like an organized filing cabinet.

IFS: Internal Family Systems
Another way to process our current and past difficulties, is to explore different parts of who we are, and where they come from. This is done by digging into the areas of who you are, gaining insight into them, and looking at the story of your life. We will make sure to understand why different parts are coming up. We will update parts of who we are with new information. By doing this, we will find ways to unburden parts of our selves that may be stuck or are hurting greatly.
I am part of the healing tree Network.
Healing TREE (Trauma Resources, Education & Entertainment) advocates healing from abuse and trauma rather than coping with the symptoms, in order to transform lives and, ultimately, society. We achieve this by providing trauma-focused resources and education and by producing and partnering with relevant film, television, and theatre, empowering the social change necessary to create a healing movement.
